Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer to exit Trump administration

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned from her position to move into a private sector job, White House communications director Steven Cheung announced Monday. Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling will serve as acting secretary of labor following her departure. Chavez-DeRemer faced scrutiny over alleged misconduct, including mishandling department funds and inappropriate relationships with staff, which led to an investigation by the Labor Department's inspector general. Whistleblowers accused her of misusing taxpayer dollars for personal travel with family and friends and drinking during work hours. Her husband, Shawn DeRemer, was also banned from department headquarters after female staff members reported he sexually assaulted them, with at least one incident captured on video.
