Lost remains of French musketeer d'Artagnan may have been found in Dutch church

Skeletal remains discovered beneath the floor of a Dutch church may belong to Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan, the 17th-century French musketeer whose life inspired Alexandre Dumas's famous novels. Workers uncovered the grave in front of the altar at St Peter and Paul Church in Maastricht after the floor subsided in February, prompting church officials and archaeologists to launch DNA testing to confirm the identity. D'Artagnan, a legendary figure in French military history, died in 1673 during the Siege of Maastricht, but his final resting place had been lost to history. The discovery would resolve a centuries-old mystery about where one of France's most celebrated soldiers was buried.
