Australia's Lynas Rare Earths has signed a supply agreement to provide rare earth oxides to the United States, marking another step in America's effort to secure critical mineral supplies outside of China. Lynas is one of the few major rare earth producers outside of China, which currently dominates global production of these materials essential for electronics, renewable energy systems, and defense applications. The deal strengthens the US supply chain for rare earth elements at a time when the Trump administration is prioritizing domestic and allied sources for critical minerals. Rare earth oxides are processed forms of rare earth elements that are used in manufacturing permanent magnets, batteries, and other high-tech components.
