Republican Islamophobia Has Reached Shocking New Levels

Republican lawmakers including Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.), and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) have escalated anti-Muslim rhetoric on social media, with Ogles posting anti-Muslim content more than 100 times since declaring last month that "Muslims don't belong in American society." A newly launched "Sharia-Free America Caucus" now has 60 members in Congress, while House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune have issued only mild public rebukes without imposing consequences. Party leaders are attempting to tolerate anti-Muslim attacks while suppressing antisemitism, but rising figures on the far-right like Nick Fuentes and Candace Owens openly embrace antisemitism, creating pressure that could force younger Republicans to stop making that distinction.
