A tractor-trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of extra-firm tofu crashed off a highway near Jerome, Missouri, in early March and spilled its entire cargo into a ravine. The tofu was left exposed for weeks, decomposing in the open air and creating what local officials described as an "unforgettable" odor that affected the surrounding area. The cleanup operation, which local authorities dubbed the "Great Battle of the Jerome Tofu Monster," began on March 1st after the initial accident.
