Judge blocks Trump administration's subpoenas against Fed Chair Powell

Chief Judge James Boasberg blocked two grand jury subpoenas the Trump administration issued against Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Friday. The judge wrote that "the Government has offered no evidence whatsoever that Powell committed any crime other than displeasing the President." The ruling prevents federal prosecutors from compelling Powell's testimony or documents in what appears to be a criminal investigation. The decision protects the Fed chair from what the court viewed as politically motivated legal action. The Trump administration could appeal the ruling or would need to provide evidence of actual criminal conduct to pursue the subpoenas.
