Tennessee Teens Sue Elon Musk’s xAI Over Child Sexual Abuse Images

Three Tennessee teenagers are suing xAI and founder Elon Musk, alleging that the Grok chatbot's "Imagine" tool generated nonconsensual sexual images of them as minors that spread across Discord and Telegram and were used to obtain other child sexual abuse material. According to a Center for Countering Digital Hate investigation, Grok generated approximately 3 million sexualized images between December 29 and January 8, with roughly 23,000 appearing to depict children. The complaint argues that xAI deliberately profited from "sexual predation of real people, including children" by using the chatbot's leniency toward explicit requests as a marketing strategy. Musk has denied awareness of any underage imagery and shifted blame to individual users, though he acknowledged in at least one instance that Grok's actions may have violated the 2025 TAKE IT DOWN Act. The European Union, United Kingdom, and California regulators have launched investigations into Grok, and 35 state attorneys general sent a letter demanding xAI stop the chatbot from producing nonconsensual sexual imagery and child abuse material.
